My neighbor AmeriMike has died from a heart attack. I didn't know him well, but I knew everything about him. When I was first looking at the house that I now live in, I noticed the neighbors flag pole.
An American flag with the flag of the United State's Marine Corps below it. That's all I needed to know about my future neighbor.
He had retired from the Military and was a long haul Trucker.
I didn't see him often but when I did; he'd let me sit in the driver's seat of his rig, or tractor, or whatever it's called while he was getting it ready for the next run. Did we talk politics? Oh yeah we did.
We'd solve all the world's problems in the span of fifteen or so minutes. Then I would leave him to his wife and sons. His name was Mike, but he once mentioned that some people still called him Gunney. As in Gunnery Sergeant. From that day forward, he was Gunney to me.
Rest in peace Gunney.
